Animalia: fictional zoo identity created with cute and colorful icons of animals
German graphic designer Tara Otto’s assignment for her graduation project was to create the identity for a fictional zoo. And her approach is really different from any zoo branding that you have ever seen before!
Using flat color icons in a soft color palette, with simple geometry and minimalist features, she has drawn icons for many animal species. Her use of negative space is great, and manages to represent capybaras or Komodo dragons with simple, yet very distinctive elements.
She has designed leaflets, maps and stamps using these animal pictograms, and merchandise that you would expect to find at the souvenir shop after your visit: all of these sport the animal icons in their designs.
