Artist sculpts app icons in color pencils

Salavat Fidai is a Russian artist that works in miniature sculptures made with carved color pencils. The artist says that he claims to feel calm and at peace when he is working on these detailed pencil carvings, which he uses to relieve stress.

He used to work as a lawyer, but quit his career two years ago, at 41, to focus in his art as a freelance artist. He now dedicates his energy to his family and his numerous projects. In this particular series, he has carved the icons of several social media apps (Vine, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and Snapchat, amongst others) by using colored pencils according to the color of each brand’s logotype.

Do you think you could be as relaxed as he is when he is carving his tiny sculptures? Graphite is quite fragile, and the slightest mistake could ruin an entire piece. Maybe it takes a lifetime to learn a technique that requires patience and the ability to remain cool and centered for many hours straight.
